Like Like Falls and V Falls Hike
2.4 miles 636ft elevation Out & Back Trail Moderate
Like Like Falls and V Falls are lesser-known, off-the-beaten-path waterfalls hidden within Oahu’s lush jungles. These waterfalls are not on official, maintained trails, making them more of an adventurous and semi-secret exploration for experienced hikers. Important Notes: Not official trails, expect overgrown paths and tricky navigation. Stream crossings & slippery terrain: Be prepared for mud and wet conditions. Flash flood risk: Do not hike if rain is in the forecast. Located near the Likelike Highway, in a deep jungle area on the windward side of Oahu. Access is not from an official trailhead, so finding it requires navigational skills. The hike involves stream crossings, muddy paths, and overgrown jungle sections. The waterfall is small but picturesque, with a beautiful tropical backdrop. V Falls is located deep in the Ko’olau Mountains, and access is tricky and unmarked. The name "V Falls" comes from the distinctive V-shaped rock formations surrounding the falls. The hike requires bushwhacking through dense vegetation. Expect multiple stream crossings, rock scrambling, and wet conditions. The waterfall cascades beautifully over the rocks, creating a serene, jungle atmosphere. Navigation is difficult, and the trail is not marked. Water levels vary greatly, during dry months, the waterfall may have low flow. Do not attempt after heavy rain, the area is prone to flash floods.
Tips for Hiking
Best Time to Visit: After recent rain, but be cautious of flooding.
Early morning: Cooler temps and fewer people.
Warning: Navigation is difficult, and the trail is not marked.
Water levels vary greatly: During dry months, the waterfall may have low flow.
Do not attempt after heavy rain: The area is prone to flash floods.
Wear proper hiking shoes: The trails are muddy, wet, and slippery.
Bring bug spray: Mosquitos are bad in the jungle.
Use GPS & offline maps: These waterfalls are not easy to find.
Start early: The hike takes longer than expected due to terrain.
Avoid solo hiking: Remote locations mean help is far away if something goes wrong.
Be mindful of private property: Some routes may cross through restricted areas.
Be cautious: Expect slippery rocks, and occasional fallen trees blocking the path. Since this is not a maintained trail, parts of the route can be washed out or obstructed
Thoughts from my Hike
You can park on the road before the gate to Ko’olau Golf Club. However, use caution as tickets are issued for vehicles not parked correctly along the road. The falls can also be accessed by parking at the Pali Lookout along Pali Highway (Route 61) it is $10 to park at the golf course parking lot. You can park down the hill on the street but it can be crowded. The trail head is at the back of the parking lot off to the right. Go past the cones and wire rope. you will get to a big graffiti structure. The trail goes to the left right before you fully get to the structure.
